Farmers Market Produce Recovery
Reducing food waste. Supporting our community.
Farmers Market Produce Recovery was created in November 2022 as a means of recovering leftover produce from local farmers markets that would normally go to waste.
Food vendors stock stands with extra produce, something that is necessary in order to have an abundant visual appeal to attract customers. The leftover produce would normally go back to the farm where it is composted or fed to animals.
Instead, the fresh, healthy produce is provided to local food pantry partners and organizations feeding meals to people who are food insecure.
Farmers are excited to know that the produce they worked so hard to grow is enjoyed, they have a deeper involvement with our community, and they don't have to put in extra work to bring leftovers back to the farm.
Because of our farm partnerships at the markets, local people who might not otherwise have access to fresh produce can eat more healthily.
This is another food rescue program where Sunshine Community Harvest reduces food waste at the preventative stage, and where everybody in our community wins.
THANK YOU to the
farmers and vendors in our community who partner with us to bring nutritious fruit and vegetables to those in need.
We invite local farmers to partner with us.
Benefits of the program:
Reduces food waste at the preventative stage
Saves time and labor to take produce back to the farm
Creates community connection
Everybody in the community wins!
