Our Impact
Our Community
Sunshine Community Harvest cultivates lasting change across our region by connecting people to food, sustainability, and one another. We educate residents, students, and local businesses on sustainable food practices, expand access to fresh, local produce through partnerships with growers and community groups, and build volunteer networks dedicated to environmental stewardship. Through hands‑on programs and advocacy, we reduce food waste, strengthen food security, and inspire collaboration across environmental, agricultural, and social‑impact sectors.
Food Rescue
Sunshine Community Harvest rescues fresh, local food that would otherwise go to waste—redirecting abundance to families who need it most. Through our Suncoast Gleaning Project, Farmers Market Produce Recovery, and Suncoast Fruit Rescue programs, we recover surplus produce from farms, markets, and neighborhoods across the region. Together, these efforts have already rescued more than 586,000 pounds of food—equivalent to over 1.6 million servings—while nourishing families, supporting local growers, and strengthening community connection.
Food Scrap Diversion
Sunshine Community Harvest transforms waste into nourishment and neighbors into stewards. Through our composting programs, we’ve already diverted more than 450,000 pounds of food scraps from local landfills—avoiding over 1,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions, saving 103 million gallons of water, and achieving an environmental impact equal to 2.5 million miles not driven and 156 Olympic swimming pools conserved. By transforming hearts, minds, and food scraps, we help shift cultural practices from waste generation to resource creation across our community.
