Closing the loop on food waste 〰️
The mission of Sunshine Community Harvest is to cultivate and advance a resilient, local food network that nourishes our community and planet.
Our Mission
A message from the Board
We’re thrilled to share an exciting milestone for our community! Sunshine Community Compost and Community Harvest SRQ have merged to form Sunshine Community Harvest—a unified nonprofit dedicated to cultivating and advancing a resilient, local food network that nourishes our community and planet.
For years, our two organizations have worked side by side, each advancing hands-on, community‑powered solutions to food waste, soil health, and fresh food access.
Together, we’ve:
Diverted hundreds of thousands of pounds of food and food scraps from local landfills
Expanded access to fresh, local produce
Educated residents, students, and businesses on sustainable food practices
Built strong volunteer networks committed to environmental stewardship
This is a moment of intentional evolution. By joining forces, we are creating an organization capable of deeper impact, broader reach, and greater long‑term resilience. Thank you for believing in this work and for helping build a healthier, more connected, more resilient local food network.
With gratitude,
The Sunshine Community Harvest Board of Directors
Sunshine Community Harvest is the newly unified nonprofit formed by the merger of Sunshine Community Compost and Community Harvest SRQ. In September 2025, a joint task force was formed to explore what a shared future might hold, and in February 2026, our boards formally voted to merge and form Sunshine Community Harvest.
