Mango Sharing Season

Volunteer and Board Member, Joyce Norris, has found many homeowners who were glad to share their mango abundance this summer. From Joyce -

We have had a fantastic response to this summer’s fruit tree rescue program. So far we have saved 519 pounds of mangoes and donated them to local food pantries and food sharing programs. I learned how to pick mangoes hanging 15 feet above my head. The food pantries were so excited to get fresh produce, as most farms do not grow much during the hot summer months. Streets of Paradise took the creative approach of making mango popsicles to hand out to unsheltered folks on especially hot summer days.

Joyce filled the trunk of her car to the brim with freshly picked mangoes on their way to the drop-off location.

A shout out to all those who donated excess fruit from their trees!

If you have a backyard tree that is producing a lot more than you can use, register it with us. Why let your fruit rot in the yard or on the sidewalk? We will review the specifics of your situation and have volunteers available at harvest time. Hmmm... avocado season is coming up soon.
